One of the features and possibilities in League of Legends that isn't known by a lot of League’s players is that you can play the game offline. What do we mean by that? Simply put, you can play League of Legends while appearing offline to your friends on the friends list. At first, this may seem like a useless feature, but there are many advantages to using offline mode, especially when climbing ranked and trying to concentrate on your games. All of our elo boosters use offline mode, so there’s no reason not to try it. In the following article, we’ll explain the advantages of offline mode and two methods you can use to appear offline in League of Legends
Psst, we have written before on how to appear offline in Valorant, if you are interested about it go check it out!
Advantages of using offline mode
Avoiding people and playing without distraction
We all have that friend who is Silver IV and wants to duo queue with us despite the fact that he’s 5 tiers below us and drags our LoL MMR down whenever we play. Appearing offline is much easier than coming up with an excuse as to why you can’t play with him. On the other hand, maybe you have friends that are just extremely annoying and won’t stop spamming you when you’re trying to climb, or they just want to act edgy like those L9 players Either way, this is easily solvable by using offline mode as nobody will be able to see you when you’re queueing up or playing, meaning you can fully focus on your games.
Avoid target banning/stream sniping
This is one of the best usages of offline mode and it’s mostly applicable to high elo players and one-trick ponies. One of the main reasons why offline mode is as popular as it is right now is because streamers often use offline mode to avoid stream sniping and trolling. More often than not, if streamers aren’t using offline mode, people on their friends list will try to snipe them in ranked queue and ban their champs/troll their games for attention. If you’re a streamer yourself, you can avoid all of this by simply using offline mode and appearing offline to all of your friends on your friends list.
On the other hand, if you’re a one-trick pony that has a lot of friends on his friends list, offline mode is useful if you have friends that are close in elo/tier that you’re in. If you’re not using offline mode, they’ll often try to champion select snipe you and ban your one-trick champion on purpose.
Using offline mode is also very helpful when it comes to leveling up new accounts, as you will avoid your newbie friends and will be able to have the highest win rate possible.
Command Prompt method
There are two ways to appear offline in League of Legends. The first and the most reliable way to appear offline in League of Legends is to do a bit of tweaking in your command prompt. We’ll explain it step-by-step below.
Step 1: First, you need to enable your Windows Firewall if you’re a Windows user, or the default Firewall integrated into your OS. Firewalls provided by various antivirus software should do the trick as well.
Step 2: Open your Command Prompt as Administrator (right-click and press “Run as administrator”)
Step 3: If you’re an NA player, you need to copy this and paste it in your command prompt:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”lolchat” dir=out remoteip=192.64.174.69 protocol=TCP action=block
If you’re an EUW player, use this instead:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”lolchat” dir=out remoteip=185.40.64.69 protocol=TCP action=block
If you’re not from EUW or NA, read the paragraph on how to check your League of Legends chat IP
When you’re done appearing offline, you can reappear online by using these steps.
Step 1: Open Command Prompt as admin
Step 2: Copy this: netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name= “lolchat”
Step 3: Enter and you’re good to go
How to check your League of Legends chat IP
If you’re not from EUW or NA, you’ll need to know your LoL chat IP before trying to appear offline through the command prompt. This method works for every server and the only thing that changes is the IP you use after the remoteip keyword. The easiest way to check your chat IP is in the command prompt, and we’ll take a look at how.
Step 1: Open your Command Prompt as Admin
Step 2: Copy this: chat.euw1.lol.riotgames.com, change the region based on the region you play in, and try changing 1 to 2 if it doesn’t work
Step 3: Copy the IP address and use it after the remoteip keyword in the previous method
Using the Deceive software to appear offline
If it’s too tedious for you to work around your command prompt and firewall to appear offline, there is an easier way to do so.
Deceive is a third-party program that essentially blocks the connection to League chat servers, resulting in you being offline whenever you want. Deceive is completely harmless, virus-free, and Riot has previously endorsed and mentioned this tool as a safe option to appear offline. Deceive’s offline mode works on all servers, so you don’t have to bother finding your League of Legends Chat IP. You certainly won’t get banned for using this tool, so you can go ahead and download it freely.
Once you’ve downloaded the Deceive software, launch League of Legends as admin through their client. Even though your muscle memory will instinctively launch League from your Riot’s client, if you want to appear offline, you’ll have to open the client through Deceive’s software.
Deceive bugs and errors
I’m still online - Deceive has a common bug where you can see your friends, but they can’t see you. try re-launching the game a few times and it should be fixed by that point.
Deceive error when launching - If this happens, try re-launching Deceive a couple of times. If that doesn’t fix the problem, re-install Deceive or League of Legends itself
Conclusion
All in all, using offline mode is useful for many reasons. Whether you’re trying to avoid a toxic annoying friend with low honor level, a stream sniper, or just want some peace when you’re climbing, there’s no reason not to appear offline once in a while, and play without any distractions. We all have days when we're not in the mood to chat or socialize with our friends, and luckily, there's an easy way to enjoy your gaming session all by yourself.
